Print Android Performs at the Bath Fringe!

For the second year running the Bath Fringe Festival has chosen the Banner Printing Android to print their festival banners. A fantastically designed range of visual graphics as shown are to be draped across Bath city centre to raise awareness of the fantastic Bath Fringe Festival.

As production manager Jason Carpenter says “These are beautifully designed PVC Banners and we are proud to have produced them on our new press!” The flatbed press recently installed by Spiral Print also produces fine art graphics for photographers and artists as it has the ability to produce 3 metre by 1.5 metre sized images on to almost anything from metal to wood to glass and acrylic, but is mostly used for printed posters and PVC banners.

“We are used to printing great pieces of art for photographers and artists, but the Bath Fringe have enabled us to do the same on their PVC Banners.”

What is the Bath Fringe Festival?

Bath Fringe Festival is a seventeen day festival of many different art forms all set within the fantastic City of Bath, so we are especially pleased to be working with the Bath Fringe. Running from May 24 to June 9, 2013 (and you may get a few extras one or two days either side!) the Fringe has around 200 events and features artists and performers from around the world.

Originally the Bath Fringe found Spiral Colour via their banner printing website www.bannerprintingandroid.co.uk which enables you to order online with free delivery. Spiral Colour and the Android are being asked to print more and more band backdrops since the arrival of the new Jetrix press from South Korea. It has enabled the banner printing specialist to print all sizes of PVC Banners at 1200dpi high resolution without asking bands to break the bank.

“Band banners have always been a key part of our business” says pre-press manager David Davies, “but now we are printing all sorts from a three foot by 8 foot banner to a full stage wrap. We are even supplying hardware like the Pegasus and the Gantry System which allows anyone to build a set and backdrop to suit the site and stage.”

Using the latest PVC banner printing technology, Spiral have been able to make their banners cheap and whilst many banners are bought online using the Print Android, many more bands require a more bespoke solution to make their performances visual. Therefore Spiral have Jamie and Lucy on hand to discuss any bespoke band banner requirements.

Things to look for when buying your band backdrop:

Make sure it is durable and cleanable – nothing worse than having beer stains all over your painstakingly designed new band logo
Check out the sites your backdrop is going to hang from, is there something to hang it from? If this isn’t possible, consider getting two smaller banners as opposed to one big one, this will give you more options on the road
When your band banner can’t be used as a backdrop, use it outside or somewhere like a back wall – Get YOUR name out there!
Band backdrops can be designed to make full use of the lighting available – use lighting as part of the design where possible.

Reinventing Spiral Colour, with an eye to the future

As Print Manager Jamie Brelsford explains, Spiral Colour have reinvented themselves over the past few years “Three years ago we were typical ‘old fashioned’ printers, where the bulk of our work was made up of letterheads, NCR pads and PVC Banners. However, they’re still a big part of their business.

But, as Jamie says, there’s a lot more to Spiral nowadays, “Now when we quote for stationery we’re asked to quote for our customers signage too, and when we print the signs, we’re asked to install them too! Similarly with exhibition and display, when our customer wants an exhibition stand we can design it, install it, break it down and then store it here for next time.”

Integrating modern printing technology and solutions

As well as adding exhibition display and signage services, Spiral have become one of only three printers in the UK licensed to print a special dot pattern for the Anoto Digital Pen which has become rapidly taken up by the healthcare industry amongst others, with the NHS joining Morrisons and Sainsbury as end users. The pen reads the dot pattern and instantly turns hard copy to PDF and as Production Manager Jason Carpenter explains “It wasn’t easy, Swedish company Anoto needed to make sure we had the capabilities, both in personnel as well as machinery and software. We were glad when the IT specialists gave us the green light last year:’

Spiral Colours modernisation doesn’t stop there, they have introduced an online character PrintAndroid.co.uk where end users are able to buy PVC banners, exhibition stands, flyers, roller banners etc. online at very cheap prices. This has successfully introduced Spiral to a UK wide audience. Spiral have also developed their own corporate print ordering application which allows regular customers to order their print online.

Peel Holdings currently use their application to order all their stationery for over 30 of their companies. The system allows the end user to change their contact details on their business card template before submitting to the Peel print buyer whose approval sends it over to Spiral. The submitted order cuts out all administration as it creates its own production card and sends an automated invoice and keeps the customer informed at every stage of production.

The Jetrix Flatbed

The Jetrix flatbed is Spiral Colours latest investment, a wideformat flatbed capable of printing primers on wood and metal, white ink and a varnish which allows them to create UV varnish finishes. Online Banner Printers Invest in Jetrix

Online banner printing specialist Spiral Colour and their website www.BannerPrintingAndroid.co.uk have added a brand new flatbed wide format press to their digital printing unit in Macclesfield Cheshire.

It also prints a UV spot varnish finish – at any size

The Jetrix will enable Spiral to do far more with their banners (PVC) and other wide format print products. Spiral will become the first online banner printer to offer spot UV to their banners and roller banners, and they will be capable of offering 1200dpi banners at a very cheap cost.

This is all down to the Jetrix Press unique ability to be able to offer a primer and/or a varnish to the finished banners, and Spiral have wasted no time in offering this to their online banner and online roller banner customers. (This also means that Spiral will be able to offer roller banners cheap too!)

Spiral are also offering online banner and roller banner templates together with a specification sheets to allow their web visitors to design online. The templates vary from Wedding banner templates, to baby shower banner templates, and are available free of charge.

Banner Printing for Outdoor Use

PVC Banners for Outside Use

Cheshire based printer Spiral Colour are printing and manufacturing banners in the UK for outside use.

The banners are made from 440gsm PVC which is an industry standard substrate and perfect to withstand weather of all kinds. The banners come with eyelets which are strengthened and the entire length and breadth of the PVC banner is strengthened with webbing.

Banners are very often used outside and this is the reason why we print on substrates that our designed for this purpose. The PVC is not only waterproof but it is also is extremely durable so making our banners suitable for outdoor use.

What about long term banners?

If you require a PVC banner to be up for a long term,(ie; Signage for over 3 months) Spiral can produce mesh banners with added webbing and shock cords to withstand even the fiercest of gales. This finishing does mean extra cost, but is guaranteed to make your banner last longer.

The mesh pvc banner allows the wind to flow through the banner and therefore reducing the stress on the attachments and the structure the pvc banner is attached to.

By adding shock cords rather than cable ties, the elasticated shock cords enable the banner to move around and further causing less stress to the structure.

Cardiff 10K PVC Banners Printed by The Android

Banner Printing for Cardiff 10K

Banner Printing Android has just completed the printing of roller banners and outdoor banners for Kidney Wales and the Cardiff 10K run which is happening in September 2013.

The 10K in Cardiff has attracted a fantastic number of participants and they have announced that participant numbers have been raised to meet demand. Teams from Spire Healthcare, the South Wales Fire Service and all political parties are taking part along with thousands of individual entrants.

Banner Printing Androids James Willdig was delighted to be able to supply the PVC and roller banners directly “The design looks fantastic and as you can see from the pictures, we printed at high resolution to make sure the design was not compromised in any way, they look awesome.”

Design & Manufacture

Kidney Wales presented the artwork for the banners to Print Android as a PDF after contacting the sales team by telephone (01625 435130). James was then able to advise Kidney Wales on the best way to send the files and also how long it would take to manufacture. PVC Banner manufacture normally takes around 2 to 3 days, but the Print Android has turned banners around on the same day before! Our print and finishing team then made the banner.

Printed Banner Signs

Help & Advice on Choosing Printed Banners and Signs

Banner Signs are printed at Print Android’s Cheshire print unit in Macclesfield, and they cater for both permanent and temporary signage. Printed banners and signs can come in quite a few guises so we have simplified things a little so you can decide what is the best way forward for you. PVC banners of course can be added quickly and cheaply to your shop or retail unit, however you may need something more permanent.

If you need a pop-up shop banner, choose the first banner sign.

1. 440gsm PVC Printed Banner:

Perfect for temporary signs. The PVC is durable and normally comes with reinforced eyelets so you can hook the printed banner sign on the front of the shop.

Useful: Yes, this is a cheap and quick way to erect signage, a PVC Banner Sign can add your logo and name in minutes and our PVC banners of this kind start at £9.99.
Useless: Not unless you have gale force winds and you haven’t put it up correctly, take care to add as many fixing points as possible and ensure the fixing points are reinforced banner edges.

2. 510gsm PVC Banner and Sign:

Heavier PVC and webbed hemming can make sure your banner or sign lasts a lot longer. The added weight and hemming with extra reinforced webbing will ensure your banner sign lasts quite a long time.

Useful: Perfect for the longer lasting sign, not quite permanent but almost as good as.
Useless: Not at all, it does cost a little more than your average banner, but it may well save you money in the long run.

3. Permanent Banner Signs:

These can be printed onto Alupanel and even laminated with an anti-graffitti laminate. The Alupanel is made of lightweight yet rust proof aluminum and can be supplied by PrintAndroid up to 10 foot by 5 foot sheets, however we can weld and fabricate signage to whatever size and shape is required.

Useful: Yes if you are looking for permanent signs and you have planning permission.
Useless: If its short term or you don’t have planning permission. You can add a banner sign without planning permission.

Advertising Banners

Advice on PVC Advertising Banners

To advertise your company, event or offer, on a PVC banner is definitely one of the cheapest ways of getting noticed.

The return on investment is almost definitely going to be worthwhile, as banner printing in the UK has come down in price enormously over the last few years.

Cheshire printers Print Android have led the way by investing in large format printing presses that are capable of high production speeds whilst not compromising on quality. Advertising banners are therefore a very cheap way of creating a buzz and getting noticed.

Do be careful though! Poor text or design could create the wrong message, so make sure your text is short and punchy – advertising banners need to be to the point.

Alternatively, try a Roller banner

The alternative is to try a roller banner to advertise your business or event. Roller banners are very cheap nowadays and are capable of producing a higher quality look and feel than a PVC alternative, even when printed at 1440dpi. These too have come down in price and cheap roller banners such as the value banner can advertise your company well – for less than 40 quid!

Again, be careful, the more you pay for your pop-up the longer it will last – good advice would be to discuss the end use of your banner and make sure you are buying the right one for your project- ie; if it’s a one off event, you won’t want to be paying any more than £40.

Do I need planning permission to display my banner?

Advertising banners can be seen everywhere as they have the added advantage of not needing any planning permission – see advice on the UK government website here.

This will explain what to look out for, but generally PVC banners are a great way to get around planning laws. This is why you see so many pop-up shops with ad banners draped across the front.

Note, from the government planning permisison website it gives the following information:

They must:

Be kept clean and tidy
Be kept in a safe condition
Have the permission of the owner of the site on which they are displayed (this includes the Highway Authority if the sign is to be placed on highway land)
Not obscure, or hinder the interpretation of, official road, rail, waterway or aircraft signs, or otherwise make hazardous the use of these types of transport
Be removed carefully where so required by the planning authority.

Roller Banners Cheap

How to get your Roller Banners Cheap

Banner Printing Android have been placed as the place to go for getting roller banners cheap on a regular basis, according to Marketing Manager James Brelsford “We have been keeping tabs on like for like roller banner prices online and we believe that we may be the cheapest.”

It’s a very fluid market and things change all the time but Jamie reckons they are on top of things when it comes to quality, he explains “We offer a 5 year guarantee on our Eco and Orient Roller Banners and a lifetime guarantee on the Barracuda Roller Banners. Below, some advice and things to look out for when buying your roller banners cheap:

Make sure that the quality of the printing is high res (at least 1200dpi). Don’t be tempted to settle for low quality printing.
Make sure the hardware (the roller mechanism) has the ability to be re-sprung so that it will remain a retractable banner.
Make sure you have a protective carry bag included.
Ask about continuity of stock and ask about the returns policy – if you are not happy make sure you can return it!
If buying online, discuss your purchase beforehand, cheap roller banners are cheap for a reason, ask them why.
